This smart V2I support device uses Artificial Intelligence and Machine Vision to generate connected vehicle messages to help them operate safely in the rural areas.

Connected automated vehicle (CAV) technology offers great benefits to vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I) safety. Connected road users can communicate with each other and with infrastructure to prevent fatalities. However, the majority of the fatalities occur in the large rural areas of the county where these road users are not highly populated. And, the availability of connected infrastructure will be limited in the rural areas due to challenges in providing the power and fiber optic cable infrastructure. To mitigate this problem, Connected Wise's smart vision support system will replicate the communication between the Road Side Unit (RSU) and the On-Board Unit (OBU) in areas, where the the connected infrastructure is not available. This system will recognize unique V2I message signs and generate the necessary vehicular messages (MAP, TIM, SPAT, BSM etc.).
